What is an independent medical examination?
An independent medical examination, or an "IME," is an examination performed by a doctor who is not authorized to treat you. The purpose of an IME is to resolve any questions about your medical condition. It can be done as a result of the carrier asking for it or as a result of you asking for it. Either way, each party is bound to their selection and their can only be a one time visit of an examiner who cannot provide any treatment.
