Q: Will my employer's workers' compensation insurance pay for treatment if I go to my own personal doctor?
In the Florida worker's compensation system, you must be very careful when it comes to receiving authorized medical treatment - the key word being "authorized." The worker's compensation carrier ultimately determines whom it is that you're going to receive treatment from.
Our strong advice to all clients is to make sure you limit your receipt of medical treatment to doctors whom are authorized under the workers' compensation system. Should you choose or elect to seek treatment on your own through a personal doctor or through group health, you are subject to many prejudices which will complicate your case. For instance, you may not be able to be reimbursed for the payments made for the medical treatment. Even more catastrophic is the fact that the opinions rendered by those doctors are deemed inadmissible under the law.
